Early Southern California punk with original vocalist Stevo Jensen.
Features “Ladykiller,” “Mohawk Town,” and “Master Race (In Outer Space).”
The band’s full-length debut mixes frantic playing with an irreverent sense of humor.
When in Rome Do as the Vandals catches the band during its original era, with Stevo Jensen’s vocals at the front of a wiry, restless punk sound. The songs move quickly, but the character comes as much from their comic detours and unexpected turns as from their speed.
“Ladykiller” and “Mohawk Town” remain useful entry points into this early chapter of the group. Alongside the band’s own material, a version of Focus’s “Hocus Pocus” shows how freely it could bend outside influences into its own language. This reissue is pressed on black-and-pink splatter vinyl.
