We've been getting a bunch of new releases lately, as well as a thorough dose of all the great reissues coming out. Thanks for keeping us in mind for your record mailorder needs during this obscenely hot summer. Our catalog has a ton of options for sorting by style, format, new additions etc. Check it out!
Here's a picture to remind you we're a rather small operation. Your support never goes unnoticed, as does your patience. While the label helps to represent a ton of amazing bands and talent, it's one person running this show. Thanks for helping it all maintain.
Cruising right along with the ASCEND/DESCEND pre-orders. The response has been great. The pre-order only shirts are going to look sharp - many compliments to Paul at TOR Records for printing these. The shirt/record combo probably won't be up for much longer, so snag one soon.
The UNINHABITABLE LPs ship this week. A small delay on those, thanks for your patience. If you haven't heard the latest from this crusty sludge metal Asheville group, do yourself a favor. Everything on our Bandcamp is available for free / donation download, including that new Uninhabitable.
On to some new releases!! And restocks are listed after that!
Boy Harsher "Yr Body is Nothing" LP
Following a stunning cassette EP for Night-People and an equally killer 12" single for Oraculo, DKA is very excited to issue Yr Body Is Nothing, the debut LP from Boy Harsher.
With a heavy emphasis on rhythm and atmosphere, the ten songs presented here showcase a songwriting and production style that is sophisticated and unique, dark but powerfully uplifting. The sound is paradoxically massive yet minimal, providing the perfect space for Jae Matthew's rich, deep, and emotive vocals to occupy as she, along with co-pilot Gus Muller, pulls the listener ever deeper with each passing song.
Tthe first vinyl repress of Coffins’ seminal, long-out-of-print third album Buried Death to commemorate the release of their new full-length on Relapse Records, their first in five years. This edition is available on both black vinyl and blue / white “haze” colored vinyl and duplicates the original’s layout including gatefold sleeve. On Buried Death, the Tokyo band established themselves as one of the underground’s leading purveyors of neanderthal-paced doom / death metal.
Previous releases, The Other Side of Blasphemy and Mortuary in Darkness, introduced Coffins’ black-tar dirge to an audience eager for slowppressive, maniac riffs and songs that dragged like the knuckles of a lumbering simian. This is derivative and true rather then progressive and new, with an effectiveness unmatched in today’s underground.
“You Fail Me” from Converge is the classic follow up to their landmark “Jane Doe” full length album.
Originally released in 2004, the brute force and emotional power on “You Fail Me” is unparalled. Solidifying their reign in the genre that they have defined for over two decades. Never quite content with the original mix, “You Fail Me” Redux was remixed by guitarist Kurt Ballou at his God City studios. The release was also remastered by Alan Douches (Motorhead, Mastodon), and repackaged by vocalist/artist Jacob Bannon.
Richmond’s COUGH delivers thoroughly massive, psychedelic doom on their aptly titled Relapse debut ‘Ritual Abuse’. The albums five epic tracks are impenetrable walls of sludge; at points suffocating and claustrophobic, at others warped and hallucinogenic. ‘Ritual Abuse’ is an impressive monolith of sound and volume, and one of the finest moments yet of 21st century doom.
The last thing that should come to mind, if anything, when hearing the word "Springfield" followed by "Missouri" is that it gave to the world a band, Free At Last, that has written one of the most genuine, unique, and fresh hardcore records of recent times--"Embrace You" showcases honest expression, balancing the best of what has already been established while equally forging their own creative path. Stranger things have happened... For fans of Count Me Out, Turning Point, and Fury.
After already having taken forward-thinking extreme music to unprecedented heights over the course of their short but propulsive career, Richmond's INTER ARMA are back with another opus of epic proportions. Like the band's previous works, the new album Paradise Gallows is direct and foreboding while maintaining a nuanced, artful perspective. INTER ARMA's signature palette of dissonant high-end and abyssal low-end has been augmented with swathes of thick, impressionistic melody that lend Paradise Gallows a truly biblical sense of scale, both lyrically and in terms of the album's sonic content. Harsh and acoustic passages (including the band's first-ever foray into clean vocals) spar with complex rhythmic structures across nine sweeping tracks over 71 minutes of expansive, progressive heaviness. Dense, funereal, and richly evocative, Paradise Gallows is a vibrant blend of doom, post-metal, sludge, avant-garde, black and death metal, and is a singular and powerful new addition to the band's already monumental discography.
The debut single from New Orleans' newest powerhouse LSDOGS. Featuring members of Vatican Dagger, Buck Biloxi, Sick Thoughts, and Black Abba, the pedigree alone should give you a good idea of what you are in for. Negativity at it's finest from some of the world's best purveyors of the stuff. Two short blast of straight forward punk rock.
Oh Sees, Thee "Live In San Francisco" DVD and 2xLP
Perched in the belfry of The Chapel we caught thee mighty Oh Sees, alive and in their natural element, with our shutters aflutter and our tapes on a roll. After a short incubation period, the beast has reached full maturity and it is hideous. Over three nights they pummeled, and we’ve culled some great photographs, a wicked recording, and even a little live video action.
The first double LP in the Live in San Francisco series, presented on two discs, in a handsome double gatefold jacket, with live video shot by Brian Lee Hughes and his crew of merry gentlemen on an included DVD. Finally you depraved Oh Sees freaks have something to take home with you when you lose your shoes and your girlfriend at the show. Put it on at home and pretend to wait in line for the bathroom and it’s like you’re really there. The thrash, the throb, the mob is all present and pushed to the front. Dual drummers synced in each ear, Tim Hellman rounding out the bottom and Castle Face’s own John Dwyer up front on guitar, lasering young brains off and fomenting the crowd to a froth—it’s a great band, in a great room, with a great crowd and it’s cooked to perfection… Take a little bit of it with you this time.
Baltimore’s political d-beat mainstays,Old Lines in the form of a new split effort with renowned social activist and author Will Potter, aptly titled To Build A Fire. This is the first vinyl run via Life Advice Records, which is the new label imprint of Old Lines guitarist Mitch Roemer (formerly of Pulling Teeth).
This unique pairing sees Old Lines offering two blazing and deliciously brutal d-beat songs which are accompanied by spoken-word companion tracks via Potter. The first track “Hypothermia” is focused on the current loss of privacy in the United States and perceived complacency surrounding this phenomenon. Potter, in-turn, comments on the normalization of such acts as the FBI trolling social media, monitoring of phone records by the NSA, and corporations hiring their own private investigators to spy on protesters, in his “Paradoxical Undressing” spoken-word commentary.
Patsy is back with the follow up to their debut single on Total Punk and I think this one is even better than the last. No nods to the odd, or mutant grunts just a full frontal assault. Two of the most solid hook filled punk tunes I’ve heard in some time propelled ahead by barreling drums, incredible guitar and bass interplay and Candice’s snot filled vocal attack. Could easily sit aside the early Dangerhouse catalog.
500 x Bone White / Gold Merge Standard Gram + 'Macabre' 7"
You can't talk about heavy metal without talking about PENTAGRAM. The legendary D.C. band has been committed to the dark arts for more than forty-five years, and has only recently seen the kind of recognition its legacy deserves. Though the band has released nine influential full-lengths over the course of its career, PENTAGRAM's most popular and influential material since it's Relapse resurrection 15 years ago can be found in First Daze Here, a collection of the band's earliest works that has been out-of-print for years and will now finally see a new reissue via Relapse this coming June. Its companion First Daze Here Too, a 22-track collection of unreleased studio recordings and live rehearsals from the early '70s, will also see its first reissue since going out of print several years ago. Both reissues have been newly remastered and include in-depth liner notes from founding PENTAGRAM member / original drummer Geof O'Keefe along with gorgeously revitalized layouts.
Brazil's RAKTA is back with 6 new powerfully feminine trips through the fog. Simultaneously claustrophobic and cavernous. You can feel pulsing bass and thundering battery intertwine, akin to a snake coiling around your leg, pulling you down into the murky vortex. A flourish of atmospheric keyboard and vocal clamor pulls you right back to the surface just in time to be sucker punched by silence. This garland will leave you reeling. 500 copies on black vinyl housed in a heavy duty sleeve. Art by Mateus Mondini. Sounds by Bernardo Pacheco. Mastered by Daniel Hussayn.
Red Reflection is one of the most noteworthy dark postpunk LPs, from the newer crop of bands, of the modern era. ..features the same lineup as their debut LP; the Robert Smith-like vocals of Alexander Miranda are as prominent as ever, and he has to be one of the best singers in the current postpunk world. Miranda’s vocals – which also remind of Mark Wilson of The Mob, too – are one of the highlights of the band.
It’s hard to believe that Underpass formed only 3 years ago, in 2013. Then again, if you look at the careers of bands as diverse as Joy Division and Minor Threat, within their 3 year timespan those bands did all they’ve ever been known for as well. Underpass’s new Red Reflection LP sees the Vancouver, B.C. postpunk band playing at a more mature, relaxed, and introspective pace. Similarities toPornography-era The Cure, Modern Eon, Wipers, Glorious Din, Lack of Knowledge, and The Mob abound – and all in a good way.
Follow up to the 2014 release "Assimilation".
"Red Reflection" is the first full length by Underpass.
Wolves in the Throne Room "Diadem Of 12 Stars" 2xLP
Written almost exclusively in a windowless, black room over the long, dark nights of winter 2005, Diadem of 12 Stars was the first official Wolves In The Throne Room release.Re-imagining black metal as an ode to rain storms, wood smoke and the wild energies of the Pacific Northwest, Wolves In The Throne Room craft a unique melancholic atmosphere. Diadem of 12 Stars is about lunar sorcery on Cascadian mountaintops and encounters with wild spirits. In contrast to the icy, razor sharp soundscapes of their ’90s Norwegian forebears, Diadem of 12 Stars is lush and ethereal, dripping with rain-soaked moss and lichen.

Flesh Eating Creeps "The Book About The Movie: Complete Recordings 1995-2000" Tape
Flesh Eating Creeps were a 1990s Richmond, Virginia hardcore punk band whose members went on to form the bands Brainworms, City Of Caterpillar, Light The Fuse And Run, Municipal Waste, Stop It!! and Worn In Red. Over the years, Flesh Eating Creeps’ sound evolved from DC-inspired ‘80s-style hardcore like Minor Threat, Void, and Swiz to a more technical and chaotic sound influenced by Born Against, Heroin, and All.
The two constant members, Chris Terry and Brendan Trache, worked with old friend Will Cole of Handstand Records to digitize vinyl and tape recordings, scan photos and flyers, and compile as much information as possible for this comprehensive, 58-song discography that includes a wonderfully done cassette release, a Bandcamp download/stream, and an archival band website.
Fresh tape from Minneapolis' new classic crust band. 8 tracks of pummeling D-beat hardcore punk. 5.00 | Listen / Order
Human Hands / The Blue Period split LP
"This is some UK emo of the first order. I'm talking 1995 Subjugation Records, Tree Records, Ida, Hated, September kinda emo. Both bands have a different take on the sound but both absolutely nail it. This is so refreshing - it brings me right back to being 17 and blasting Owltian Mia - I just keep flipping it over and over. Seriously if any of the aforementioned bands/labels means anything to you, then you absolutely cannot go wrong here. " - Nevin / IFB 12.50 | Listen / Order
Malcolm Tent "Radio Blah Blah" Tape
Recorded live on WRPI in Troy, NY. A fascinating approximation of what it's like to see Malcolm Tent live (minus the spittle and blinding lights). A different set of tunes from "Get Yer Blah- Blahs Out".
Weirdo Punk N Roll from Kansas City, Missouri. Sometimes brooding, sometimes crushingly fast, sometimes more garage than punk and draped in echoing, haunting guitar lines. Some sneering, some pop punk. Good times.
Well done vinyl with variations of classics recorded in 1991 and 1992. A1 Oh, The Guilt A2 Aneurysm A3 Return Of The Rat A4 Curmudgeon A5 I Hate Myself And I Want To Die A6 You Know You're Right B1 Pennyroyal Tea B2 Radio Friendly Unit Shifter B3 On A Plain B4 Verse Chorus Verse B5 Something In The Way B6 All Apologies
Doom metal requires absolute conviction; anything less is a horrible mess of failed ambition and tragically misplaced conviction. Enter Pyramido: monolithic riffs, throaty vocals brayed into the abyss and an excellent grasp of atmosphere.
21 April 1984 Vinyl Party, De Meervaart, Amsterdam, Netherlands
This concert, put together to celebrate Dutch music magazine Vinyl's fifth anniversary, was the Smiths' first show in a country where the main language wasn't English. Everything went well but Morrissey sounded rather reserved at first. He was probably intimidated by the language barrier, but by the end of the show he appeared to be more comfortable. He did say a few words in between songs but didn't really alter lyrics the way he sometimes did in England where the audience was more familiar with the Smiths' material.
"Miserable Lie", "I Don't Owe You Anything" and "These Things Take Time" returned to the setlist. They were rarely performed at this point in time. The latter two titles were almost at the end of their live career.
During the recent UK tour "Hand In Glove" had been the standard set opener and its intro extended by a few bars. For some reason, even if the song was still opener in Amsterdam, the normal intro was brought back. After the latter number Morrissey introduced the next planned one by saying: "Thank you, this song is called 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now'." The song had just been recorded and it was planned to be released as a single one month later, so this live performance was much closer to the studio version we are familiar with. Only minor differences remained.
Svart Sno "Den Sista Spiken i den Sista Kistan" LP
Finally, almost two decades after their demise - here it is, the ultimate and only Svart Snö compilation. The Last Nail in the Last Coffin, as the Swedish title reads, is a long overdue production for all those who were too young when the band was around, while it can serve as the finest best-of record for the rest of us. This album presents the band's development all the way from their raw and straightforward first demo in 1988 up to their much more well-produced swansong eight years later.
Svart Snö broke through the boredom of their Stockholm suburbs in 1987, at a time when the punk scene in Swedens capital city really needed just them. They came around bringing an injection of anger, energy and fastness that bore testimony of local predeccesors - bands such as Agoni, Mob 47 and Crudity - but Svart Snö also managed to add their own flavour of less predictable hardcore punk into their potion. This at a time when most punk bands in Stockholm either did their best to recapture the more poppier sounds of 1977 or were heading toward the speed- and deathmetal cage.
Over the years Svart Snö managed to keep evolving musically, sometimes blending their roots in solid hardcore with a dirty rock'n'roll-ish sound. Always melodic in their own brand of rowdiness, Svart Snö weren't interested in just copying other bands, neither musically nor lyric-wise - where they managed to put across their political messages with an often humorous twist.
Long awaited, now finally ready for your ears. This is Svart Snö's finest hour (or 47 minutes, to be precise). Digitally remastered at Communichaos Media Clay Station - 20 songs alive and kicking from the coffin - selected by the band members themselves from all of their releases and compilation records 1988-1987, plus two previously unreleased tracks.
Prince Edward Island bass/drums powerviolence. Similar in instrumentation and sound to WATER TORTURE but with more youth crew hardcore vibe and less of a grind sound. Has elements that sound like some of the best 90's PV bands, i.e., CROSSED OUT, INFEST, and SPAZZ. Bass sounds are totally gnarly and work perfectly with the drum sounds.
So we're already taking a bite out of 2016 with three LP projects and a tape. Naturally, this isn't close to it all, but it's certainly plenty for now.
UNINHABITABLE "S/T" LP Dark crusty punk metal from Asheville, NC. Caustic female vocals. Downtuned guitars. Have a listen here.
DECADES/FAILURES "002" LP The first full length from D/F will get the vinyl treatment later this year... Coldwave, darkwave, goth, whatever. If you've unfamiliar, check it out here. The initial tapes are long gone, but since I want a copy on vinyl, I guess you can get one too.
KNIFE HITS "ERIS" LP Orlando to Philly grinding hardcore madness. Veterans from everything to Republicorpse, and Fuck SS, to Backslider. Listen to a track here.
WOVEN IN - Tape Shadowy shoegaze surf? Excited to be working with the Jacksonville native. Listen to previous endeavors here.
Summer has been a wild ride; Every few weeks it changes how/when my daughters decide to sleep, and setting up the new online store was worth it , but very laborious. It's humming along fine though, and it's time to get back to work on the upcoming Dead Tank releases. And by work I mean.. wait..... pressing plant times are ridiculous. I use the term 'upcoming' very loosely...
The upcoming LP from Senior Fellows, entitled "Shallow Grave For A Dying God", is all in the hands of the plants. Reference lacquer was great, inserts and jackets are ready... This monster of an LP from Tulsa is being released by Dead Tank, Protagonist, and Horton. If "political sludge" sounds like something you'd be into, this is it. Fans of Brainoil, Thou, Neurosis and Primitive Man will not be disappointed. Here is the bands previous LP.
The Elsinores "New Forms" LP is in the same state. Everything sounds great. Inserts and jackets are done. Just waiting on the vinyl.
Listen to this Kentucky bands previous "Dreams of Youth" LP...
The Asid Bateri / Class split 7" is moving along slower than expected. Both bands have recorded and artwork is finalized. Asid Bateri are from Jacksonville, Fl. Class are from Milan, Italy. Both bands are releasing the 7" as well and Adagio 830 and Dead Tank.
Here is a track from the Asid Bateri side...
And here is the previous Class recordings.
The debut LP from Portlands The Siege Fire, entitled "Dead Refuge" will be out before August on Dead Tank / 1859. A total banger for fans of From Ashes Rise, Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone, etc. Listen and pre-order here.
A bit further out is the Tentacles "Ambivalence" LP. This is a crazed modern screamo / emo violence / grind whatever-you-want-to-call-it band from San Antonio. To be released all over by React With Protest (Germany), Dead Tank (US), Zegema Beach (Canada), Deadwood (Germany) and IFB (US).
Going to press very soon is the Bleed The Pigs / Thetan split LP.
Listen to them both here..
Again, a bit further out.. Last year we released the physical format debut for Decades/Failures with the "002" cassette. This year, Dead Tank and IFB records will be pressing a vinyl version of our favorite catchy darkwave goth recluse.
I'm sure this one will come along much quicker since it's a tape. We'll be releasing a tape for Miami's Smut. A preview of some of the tracks is below... more details forthcoming...
