Rock 'n' Roll lets John Lennon approach a familiar set of songs through the grain and flexibility of his own voice. Some performances lean into the beat, while others bring out the tenderness beneath the original hooks. The arrangements preserve the repertoire's directness, making the album feel like a conversation between the singer's musical beginnings and his later experience.
