Plastic Beach gathers an unusually varied cast around a cohesive world of bright synthesizers, patient grooves and melancholy melody. Gorillaz let rap verses, soul vocals and pop refrains coexist without forcing them into a single mold. The detailed production makes the album feel expansive, while its recurring mood keeps the journey connected.
