This collection follows the Cure's gift for making distinctive moods work inside concise pop songs. Nervy early singles give way to bright guitar lines, buoyant rhythms and Robert Smith's instantly recognizable voice, with darker shades always close by. Heard together, the songs show how consistently the band connected its unusual textures to enduring melodies.
