EI8HT gives Shinedown's forceful guitar sound room to shift between driving rock and more open, reflective passages. Brent Smith's vocals provide a consistent center as the arrangements change scale around him. The album keeps its emphasis on clear melodies and a strong rhythmic foundation, connecting the band's heavier instincts to songs built for a large chorus.
