This release presents the complete original LP The Miles Davis Quintet & Sextet (CBS SOPM140), containing material from three different Miles Davis sessions recorded for Columbia from 1955 to 1961. All of them feature allstar formations, boasting such names as John Coltrane and Hank Mobley on tenor sax, Cannonball Adderley on alto sax, pianists Red Garland, Bill Evans, and Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummers Philly Joe Jones and Jimmy Cobb.
