Song of Soil brings Masahiko Togashi, Don Cherry, and Charlie Haden together for spacious spiritual jazz shaped by percussion, open improvisation, and meditative atmosphere.
Masahiko Togashi recorded the session in Paris with Don Cherry and Charlie Haden, creating an unusually spacious meeting of Japanese and American improvisers.
The music mixes free jazz, spiritual jazz, ambient space, and Eastern influence across pieces including “June,” “Oasis,” “Rain,” and the title track.
Togashi's adapted percussion, Haden's bass, and Cherry's open melodic playing give the album a distinctive floating, meditative character.
For fans of Alice Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, and Japanese spiritual jazz.
