Electra Heart uses glossy pop production to frame a character study full of longing, sharp observation and theatrical excess. Marina's flexible voice brings personality to the album's shifting roles, from defiant choruses to more vulnerable passages. The bright hooks make an immediate impression, while the uneasy emotions underneath give the record its staying power.
