Once Upon a Christmas makes the most of the easy contrast between Kenny Rogers' warm baritone and Dolly Parton's bright, expressive phrasing. The duets have an inviting, conversational feel, while the solo performances give each singer room to shape the mood. Country-pop arrangements connect the original songs and standards into a relaxed seasonal listen.
