Highway 61 Revisited gives Bob Dylan's restless language a tough, flexible electric backing. Piano, organ and biting guitar lines keep the songs moving while his phrasing bends around their rhythms. The record's unusual characters and shifting scenes feel immediate because the performances stay so alive, from the opening snare hit to the long acoustic close.
