Blur emerged in 1989 when Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree came together and quickly landed a deal with Food/EMI. Their 1991 debut, Leisure, marked the beginning of a run that would reshape modern British guitar music. With their 1993 follow-up, Modern Life Is Rubbish, the band pivoted toward a sharper, more distinctly English sound that helped define the Britpop era. What followed was a streak of five straight UK No. 1 albums, including the breakout classics Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995), which pushed Blur into international recognition. Their 1997 self-titled record expanded their sonic reach, and 2003’s Think Tank arrived as the group’s first project without guitarist Graham Coxon at full strength. Over more than two decades, Blur have become one of the UK’s most influential and decorated bands, earning five BRIT Awards and multiple Mercury Prize nominations.
