In July 2008, Jay Reatard and his then-girlfriend Lindsay Shutt were living together in Memphis, TN, and one night Lindsay rented David Lynch’s debut film Eraserhead for the first time and was immediately enamored with the film and particularly its standout song, “In Heaven,” performed in the film by the “Lady in the Radiator.” On a whim they recorded a cover of the track in Jay’s home studio, with Lindsay on bass and vocals and Jay on guitar, drums.

Over the years, Lindsay had hoped to officially release the song on vinyl after it had been living in obscurity on YouTube, and in a very Lynch-ian moment, she posted it on Instagram the day after Lynch’s January 16th, 2025 death and Volar Records just happened to see it at the right moment. A quick connection and agreement to release the track was made with the blessing of Jay’s estate, and Volar Records couldn’t be more proud to be involved with the first physical release of unreleased Jay Reatard music in a number of years.

On the B-side is Cody Blanchard of Shannon and the Clams contributing an incredibly spooky, stripped-down cover of “I Don’t Want to Go Down to the Basement” by The Ramones.
